This tutorial is dedicated entirely to the craft of hand sewing leather and the session offers a more in-depth look at the practical techniques required to achieve professional-quality stitching.
Designed for intermediate to advanced learners, this session is ideal for those who have previously attended the Introduction to Leatherwork tutorial or for the more experienced craftsperson seeking to enhance and refine their hand-sewing skills. The tutorial builds on foundational knowledge to advance the students' understanding of the saddle stitch method and provides insight into professional-level techniques for sewing leather.

During this session, Fenner will share and demonstrate the saddle stitch methods he uses to achieve clean, consistent stitching. The student will practice these same techniques during the session on scrap leather and will have the opportunity to try, with guidance, aspects of the hand sewing technique, including marking hole spacing, using pricking irons and awls, different stitching hole shapes, sewing corners, sewing around curves and backstitching. Thread types and optimal needle type/size will be discussed, as will techniques for starting and terminating a stitch line and how to calculate thread length effectively.
Students will receive a handout summarising key points from the session as well as a list of the tools and equipment used during the tutorial.
Students attending a tutorial session will receive an exclusive 10% OFF discount code to use against their first order at Identity Leather Craft and a code for 10% OFF orders from British Leather Supplies.
