"Needing an A4 format to host my A4 notebooks, I ordered one from Fenner, in Honey Whiskey Tan. The answer to my order and explanations was extremely swift and pleasant. The whole experience of dealing with Fenner is in that mode: very human and efficient indeed.

The shipping was brilliant and the 'Explorer 3' arrived before I thought it would. The A4 'Explorer 3' is of astounding quality and not only that, it is truly something that has some soul in it. It starts with the elegant design, I love the way the elastic loop is knotted on the top of the spine and reemerges under the leather tab (you can see that in the excellent video below in the testimonials). Both vertical and horizontal elastics rest in a beautiful little curve, preventing stress on the leather. The hand-burnished edges are superb, to the eye but also to the hand while opening the Explorer. And here I come to the quality of the leather which is quite difficult to describe, at once strong and supple, in a very refined and balanced way. The Explorer opens completely flat, which is very convenient as it transforms itself in a working surface. The vertical loop system and the horizontal bungee cord exude high quality, as the fine leather pagemark. The Explorer holds easily up to nine slim A4 Muji and Leuchtturm notebooks, using the four separate elastics and completing of course with others, Midori way ... The Honey Whiskey Tan is gorgeous, just as I wanted, and the colour will get deeper and deeper. The Explorer comes in with a very clear little leaflet concerning leather care, and that's really a nice touch and very useful.

The whole process of communicating with Mr. Benedict to finally getting this leather notebook into my hands was a delight. I asked him if we can add several pockets with the basic design of the Explorer notebook, and Mr. Benedict kindly agreed on my requests. In no time at all, I received the initial sketches, and I knew I must have this notebook!

Mr. Benedict gave many valuable suggestions that resulted in a final product that is better than what I initially envisioned it to be. All his recommendations were spot on - from the pen holder, to the placement of the slot for cards, and the stylish knot-keeper at the base. He even took into consideration the kind of pen that I wanted for the notebook, and moulded the pen holster precisely for that specific pen!

Suffice it to say, I'm extremely pleased with my bespoke Explorer notebook! I find it incredibly useful. I can carry all my notes in one format, in one notebook. It has all the slots I need for other tasks I might need to accomplish - secure pockets for small documents, sleeves for items I need to access quickly, and four elastic cords for all my current notebooks.

It is an indispensable tool at work, and it helps keep me entertained during long waiting hours. I can tuck in a thin novel in the sleeve at the back, or I can doodle with my fountain pens, while the leather cover provides good support for my notes on my lap.
