Fitting a Leather Notebook Cover

The following guide explains how to fit a Fenner Benedict notebook cover onto your Moleskine or other brand of notebook. The guide also applies to other Fenner Benedict notebook cover products - although the design of the covers (and notebooks) may vary, the fitting process is essentially, more or less, the same for all types of notebook cover.

This guide will help you fit your cover correctly and avoid causing damage to your notebook or cover. You should not apply excessive force to fit a Moleskine cover - it isn't necessary as these instructions will explain ...

You are likely to find that when your cover is brand new the process of fitting the cover to its first notebook refill may be a little more difficult than the subsequent times. The cover may feel overly tight on the Moleskine Notebook at first. This is quite intentional as your cover has been designed with consideration to the fact that all leather stretches slightly with time and use. This means that whilst a little tight at first, your cover will soon 'break in' to become a perfect fit; exactly the same as a nice pair of leather shoes!

How to fit your cover ...

1. Place the leather cover on a table face down with the cover pockets upwards. The pocket with the slot or cutout for the elastic band (if applicable) needs to be on the right ...

2. Fold back both the front and back covers of your notebook to form a v-shape and bring the elastic band around so that it is wrapped around the inside of the back cover as shown. Note: Do not fold the covers all the way back as this could damage the binding of your notebook - your notebook will not mind being folding back as shown though ...

3. Keeping the notebook held in (more or less) its v-shape, slide the back cover of the notebook into the corresponding cover pocket of the Leather Moleskine Cover about a quarter of the way ...

4. Retaining the v-shape with your hand, you will now be able to ease the front cover of your notebook partially into the corresponding cover pocket, again about 1/4 of the way ...

5. Progressively push both front and back covers fully home into the pockets by gripping the actual covers and not by pushing on the binding. Ensure that the elastic band does not become caught-up inside the pocket as you do this ...

6. You can now place the notebook down flat on the table and pull through the elastic band by reaching through the slot and carefully pulling it - you will see when it is in aligned correctly ...

7. Your cover is now fitted and will stay firmly in place protecting your notebook until you need to replace the notebook with a new one! To remove the cover please reverse the process described in the steps above ...
